Call for Nominations to the Hydrocephalus Canada’s Board of Directors (two-year term)

Hydrocephalus Canada (HC) is calling for nominations of candidates for the HC Board of Directors for 3 new Directors.  All Directors will be elected for a two-year term at our AGM. (September 26, 2020 – AGM 2022). 

Our Mission
Hydrocephalus Canada is a charitable organization and leader in serving Canadians living with hydrocephalus and spina bifida. Our purpose is to empower those impacted by the complex neurological conditions of hydrocephalus and spina bifida to experience the best life possible. We work every day to create protective and supportive environments to enhance the lives of those living with, or at risk of developing these conditions. Our efforts focus on initiating and facilitating awareness, education, support and research initiatives to further the quality of life for those impacted, their caregivers and healthcare professionals.

What We Need
We are currently seeking qualified candidates from diverse backgrounds, who demonstrate excellence in their field of expertise, bringing a mix of leadership skills, care and vision critical to due diligence and good governance. Emphasis will be on recruitment of candidates who have the time, interest in a health charity and experience to make a significant impact on the long-term performance of Hydrocephalus Canada.

We are specifically looking for leaders with experience in digital technology, fundraising and government relations. As a leader, you seek to volunteer with an organization that it committed to supporting and enhancing service excellence for children, youth, adults and seniors impacted by hydrocephalus and spina bifida including their families and caregivers. As well as having an energetic spirit and someone who enjoys the challenge of moving an organization forward, HC is looking for sound strategic and systems thinkers with skills, expertise and connections who are willing to share for the good of the organization. We also have a need for volunteers from Western and Eastern Canada.

Ideally, you have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Not-for-Profit management;
  • Strategic planning;
  • Governance and establish policy;
  • Fundraising and Event Planning;
  • Marketing;
  • Communications/Media Relations;
  • Government Relations/Policy Design;
  • Digital technology

Time Commitment & Involvement

  • $25 annual membership fee
  • 6-10 video/teleconference meetings, 1 in person (AGM/Conference)
  • Participation on 1 Board Committee – Audit & Finance, Human Resources, National Expansion, Fundraising and Marketing/Promotion & Communications
  • Provide hands on support and leverage skills, expertise and contacts to provide staff with support needed to operationalize and execute strategic plans to serve the organization’s constituencies where required
  • Directors are expected to attend and contribute points of view, make constructive suggestions and help drive decisions that benefit the organization’s mission and goals.
  • Directors are also expected to include HC in their annual charitable contributions.
  • Directors are expected to be knowledgeable about the organization and the conditions
  • Assist with personnel management as required
  • Assist in fundraising efforts and initiatives
  • Attend Annual General Meeting in September/October and other special meetings as needed including some fundraising events
  • Support the organization through attendance at special events and activities as needed
  • Assume Board leadership roles when asked
  • Directors are expected to enhance our public standing by actively promoting our mission and accomplishments to the public, and by means of personal contacts, assist in the cultivation of partnerships
